Know exactly what to load, with Thrustr
Thrustr is a free training log and weight calculator for athletes who train with a barbell and a whiteboard. It turns your 1RMs into every percentage you need, shows the plates for each side of the bar, and keeps a clean record of every lift, WOD and PR. No account, no ads, and every workout stays on your phone.

The project
Anyone who trains at a barbell gym does the same math between sets: what is 70% of my clean, and which plates make that number? Thrustr answers it in one tap, then logs the lift so the number is never guessed again. It is built for athletes who follow a whiteboard, with benchmarks like Fran, Grace, Cindy and Murph tracked alongside every 1RM.
- Weight calculator with plates shown in real bumper colors, for barbells, dumbbells and kettlebells, in lb or kg
- Scan a whiteboard photo or screenshot and Thrustr reads the workout for you
- 1RMs with full history, rep maxes from 1RM to 10RM, and automatic PR alerts
- A dashboard you arrange yourself, a calendar of every training day, and progress charts by lift
- Import from SugarWOD, Wodify or BTWB exports
Design process
The screens came first, before any code. The one rule was that the bar on screen has to match the bar in front of you, so plates are drawn in the same colors as the bumpers on the floor and the biggest number on any screen is the one you are about to load. Red is reserved for the single action that matters on each screen, and everything else stays black and white.
Type · Montserrat
Heavy, tabular numerals so weights line up and read from across the gym floor.
Plates
Real bumper colors, so a glance confirms the load.
Development
Thrustr is a native iOS app written in SwiftUI. Everything runs on the device: workouts are stored locally, whiteboard scanning uses Apple's Vision framework for text recognition, and reminders are scheduled on the phone. Nothing is uploaded, which is why the App Store listing can say Data Not Collected.
Gym programming is the next layer. A gym can share a QR code, and members scan or type the day's workout once and log against it.
Outcome
Version 1.0 is built and being prepared for the App Store as a free download, with no account and no in-app purchases. Paid AI workout suggestions and a gym owner side, with programming and scheduling, are planned for later releases once the athlete app has proved itself with real users in Seattle.
